Planned Giving

Since 1976, Operation Kindness has been working to help animals in need across Texas. Together with supporters like you, we provide assistance to animals in need of medical care, companionship and most of all, a home.
When you make a plan for charitable giving in your estate planning, you can rest assured that you are providing for the charities that matter most to you. The Operation Kindness Development Director, Nikki Walker, would love to talk to you about opportunities for charitable giving that can support our mission. Please get in touch with us by phone at (972) 428-3820 or by email: nwalker@operationkindness.org.
If you have already included Operation Kindness in a bequest or planned gift, please let us know.

Will or Trust

Making a gift to Operation Kindness through your will or revocable living trust is an easy and flexible way to save the lives of homeless pets for years to come. Have you already named Operation Kindness in your will or trust? Please let us know your plans. We’d like to thank you for joining us in our mission.

There are several ways you can make a gift through your will or trust:

Specific Gift:

You describe exactly what kind of gift you want to leave to a specific individual or organization and the designated source. If you want to leave a particular dollar amount from a specific source or a particular item (such as a piece of property), this is the type of bequest you would use. Example: Mary states in her will: “I leave $100,000 to my son, John. I leave $50,000 to Operation Kindness.”

Residuary gift:

This type of bequest is honored after all other bequests have been made and all debts, expenses, and taxes have been paid. Example: Mary states in her will: “I give all the rest, residue, and remainder of my real and personal estate to Operation Kindness.”

Contingent Gift:

This type of bequest is fulfilled if certain conditions are met. For example, if your primary beneficiary does not survive you, you can indicate your next choice through a contingent bequest. Example: John states in his will: “I give all the rest, residue and remainder of my real and personal estate to my wife, Mary, if she survives me; if not, then 50% in equal shares to my children who survive me and 50 percent to Operation Kindness.

Beneficiary Designations

Some supporters prefer the increased flexibility that a beneficiary designation provides by using IRAs and retirement plans, life insurance policies, and commercial annuities. It only takes three simple steps to make this type of gift:

Step 1:

Contact your retirement plan administration, insurance company, bank or financial institution for a change-of-beneficary form.

Step 2:

Decide what percentage you would like Operation Kindness to receive and name us on the beneficiary form.

Step 3:

Return the completed form to your plan administrator, insurance company, bank or financial institution.

Charitable Remainder Trust

If you have built a sizable estate and also are looking for ways to receive reliable payments, consider a charitable remainder trust. These types of gifts may offer you tax benefits and the option for income. There are two ways to receive payments and each has its own benefits:

The annuity trust pays you, each year, the same dollar amount you choose at the start. Your payments stay the same, regardless of fluctuations in trust investments.

The unitrust pays you, each year, a variable amount based on a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. The amount of your payments is redetermined annually. If the value of the trust increases, so do your payments. If the value decreases, however, so will your payments.

IRA Charitable Rollover

If you are 70½ years old or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to benefit Operation Kindness and receive tax benefits in return. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as ours without having to pay income taxes on the money. This law no longer has an expiration date so you are free to make annual gifts to our organization this year and well into the future.
