As we wrap up the year, there’s so much to celebrate. 2023 was a monumental year in our work helping the animals! We couldn’t have achieved these milestones without your generous support of our work. Read on to see our top mission moments from the year as we look ahead to 2024.
Opening our Everyday Adoption Center
Wanting to make it easier than ever to adopt our animals, in February 2023 we opened the Operation Kindness Everyday Adoption Center in PetSmart on Coit Road in Dallas. The new center, renovated by PetSmart Charities, has 15 kennels for adoptable dogs and 10 kennels for adoptable cats. Having a new space like the Everyday Adoption Center has allowed us to create more room at our shelter for animals who need to find loving homes.
Joining Together to Fight Cruelty
Also in February, Operation Kindness finalized a memorandum of understanding between our organization and Dallas Animal Services and the Dallas Police Department, assembling a specialty veterinary team to provide forensic veterinary services and examinations. The new team became embedded in the Dallas shelter to provide forensic examinations and necropsies for animals suspected of being victims of cruelty or neglect, increasing lifesaving outcomes.
Partnering for a Brighter Tomorrow
In August, we realized that partnering with other leading area animal welfare organizations could bring the most help to our friends at Dallas Animal Services. We invited Rockwall Pets, Dallas Pets Alive and Hearts & Bones to work with us to increase the number of transfers from Dallas Animal Services and coordinate efforts in transport, foster care, veterinary care, intake diversion and adoption programs to reduce the euthanasia rate in Dallas.
Envisioning our Lifesaving Partnerships Hub
While we’ve saved lives out of our shelter for the last 47 years, this year we envisioned ways that we could better serve dogs and cats where they need us the most. The idea for the Lifesaving Partnerships Hub was born, and we unveiled the project in September to some of our special supporters.
Bringing Texas Unites for Animals into the Operation Kindness Family
This year, we were able to expand our lifesaving animal services by entering the professional training space. Our merge with Texas Unites for Animals made this possible, as we brought the training organization into our family to provide them with greater financial and staff support while connecting them to our audience and partners. We can’t wait to see our animal welfare professionals at the Texas Unites Conference in 2024!
Welcoming Baby Grand
Baby Grand was more than just another cute kitten in our care. This fluffy little one was the 1,000th kitten to be cared for in our state-of-the-art neonatal kitten nursery! It feels so special to know that we’ve been able to help that many animals thanks to your support of this new, 24-hour treatment room in our shelter.
With so many recent accomplishments to celebrate, it’s easy to look towards the future with excitement and hope! Thanks for all you do to make our mission work possible. We couldn’t do it without you!
