Animal shelters across the country, like Operation Kindness, will be celebrating National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day today, April 30. The day brings recognition to shelter animals looking for new loving homes and encourages those interested in adding a furry friend to the family to consider adoption from a shelter.
Shelter Population Continues to Grow
According to Shelter Animals Count, more than 6.5 million dogs and cats entered shelters in 2023. Shelters across America are seeing record-breaking pet intake numbers, and North Texas is no exception. Operation Kindness broke past records in 2023 by taking in 5,967 animals into its care, up 18% from the year before. From just January to March of this year, Operation Kindness has already taken in 1,495 dogs and cats in need of medical support, foster care, food, shelter and love.
The nearly 100 animals in Operation Kindness’ care are seeking loving families to start their second chances with. From our senior dogs to our neonatal kittens, adopters have the opportunity to give the organization’s shelter pets a fresh start in a safe and loving environment.
“At Operation Kindness, we believe that every animal deserves a loving home. National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of pet adoption and the incredible bond between animals and their humans,” Operation Kindness CEO Ed Jamison said. “We are proud of the nearly 1,5000 pets who have been adopted from our shelter and found new homes in 2024, and we remain committed to the pets in and around our community.”
Those interested in meeting a new furry friend can visit Operation Kindness’ Carrollton shelter at 3201 Earhart Drive from 11 A.M. to 7 P.M. Operation Kindness also has dogs and cats available for adoption located across the metroplex at select PetSmart and Pet Supplies Plus locations.
