How to Celebrate Love Your Pet Day 2025

Operation Kindness black, white and brown dog

February is the month of love, including love for your pets. On February 20 prepare to spend all day with your furry friend for National Love Your Pet Day. At Operation Kindness, we are always happy to see the love blossom between a pet and their newly found family. To celebrate the day, here are some ways you can make your dogs tail wag a little more or help your cat purr a bit louder.

Mental Stimulation for Dogs and Cats

Nothing gets a pet more excited than an activity that helps them get their mind racing. You can create your own scavenger hunts at home by hiding treats around the house for your pet to sniff out. These types of games help your pet’s overall wellbeing by decreasing boredom and relieving stress.

Take your Pet Somewhere New

If your pet loves to explore, then taking them out to experience new surrounding would be perfect for National Love Your Pet Day. Let your dog wander and sniff nature on a new hiking trail. Take your furry friend to a pet shop they have never been to and pick out a toy while enjoying the atmosphere.

If you don’t have a pet but want to celebrate on February 20, then show some love to our shelter pets by taking them out for the day with our Kindness on the Go foster program. No appointment is necessary, just stop by our Carrollton shelter.

Update your Pets Vaccines

There’s no better way to show your pet love than making sure they stay happy and healthy. If it’s been a while since your pet had their updated vaccines, now is the time to get them caught up. Schedule an appointment with your vet or you can check out one of our low-cost vaccine clinics near you.

Make your own Pet Treats

Food is the way to the heart, especially for furry friends. There are tons of simple pet treats recipes online for both cats and dogs, so treat your pet with a good homemade good. Keep in mind not to season any vegetables or meat you give your pet. Here are a few human foods you can share with your pet by adding on top of their everyday food or use to make creative treats:

  • Blueberries
  • Unseasoned Turkey
  • Unseasoned Chicken
  • Bananas
  • Carrots

Celebrate your pet every day, but especially on National Love Your Pet Day! Showing your pet appreciation helps grow your bond with them and keeps them happy.
