Meet our Senior Shelter Animals this National Adopt a Senior Pet Month

Here at Operation Kindness, we love all pets. However, we want to show some extra love to senior shelter animals this November as we celebrate National Adopt a Senior Pet Month.

Senior cats and dogs have a harder time finding homes compared to their younger companions, with The Humane Society of the United States finding that senior animals spend almost four times as long in shelters. Adopting a senior pet ensures their health and happiness during their final years.

Meet some of our senior pets and plan a trip to visit them today!

Hazelnut

Described as a very sweet girl, Hazelnut first came to Operation Kindness in November 2017 and was recently transferred back into our care in October 2024. This past month, she traveled over 250 miles to reach our shelter from the City of San Antonio Animal Services . She loves playing with her dog friends and enjoys soaking in the attention of humans.

Hazelnut is a seven-year-old female, Dachshund mix and weighs 17 pounds. As she barely enters her senior years, Hazelnut is searching for a loving home that will give her all the scratches and belly rubs she desires.

Lucky

Known for his handsome looks and heart of gold, Lucky is a senior dog that is friends with everyone! Lucky gets along well with other dogs, and he would make a great doggy sibling for families that already have a dog of their own. Some of Lucky’s favorite activities include sunbathing, napping on the couch and talking strolls through the neighborhood. He thrives on human attention and would be a loving and loyal companion for all of life’s adventures.

Lucky is an eight-year-old male, Border Collie mix. He has been with Operation Kindness since August 28, 2024, when he was transferred in from Aubrey Animal Medical  Center. Lucky’s ninth birthday is coming up this December, and he would  love to have his own family by then to celebrate with!

Sadie

With a huge smile and constantly wagging tail, Sadie will never fail to bring joy into your life. Sadie loves zooming around the play yards and chewing on her favorite toys. She is a smart pup that is quick to pick up on new commands, making her a perfect pet to practice training with. Despite Sadie being a senior dog, she still has puppy energy in her. She loves hanging out and playing with any human around her.

Sadie is an eight-year-old female, Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog. She was recently surrendered to us on September 1, 2024, after a change in household. Sadie is looking for a second chance and a family of her own to love through her senior years.

Hazel

Hazel is a sweet and friendly senior cat that is happy to snuggle any human. She thrives on attention and will meow at anyone walking past to give her scratches behind her ear. She would make a great cat for anyone that loves cuddling and wants an affectionate companion. Hazel loves curling up for a good nap and likes searching for her next napping spot.

Hazel is a twelve-year-old female, Domestic Shorthair mix. As Hazel enters the later stages of her life, she would love to find a home to call her own and a family that will give her cuddles daily.
