November is the month of being thankful, and luckily there is a whole day to show gratitude to your dog! On November 23, celebrate Thankful for My Dog Day and show your pup some extra love this Thanksgiving season. At Operation Kindness, we are grateful for all pets and want to share special ways to show thanks to your canine companion!
How to Provide Mental Enrichment for your Dog
While dogs love to snuggle and nap throughout the day, treat your dogs to some new mentally enriching activities to show them gratitude. Putting together a scavenger hunt by hiding treats inside your house or giving your pet a puzzle toy, are great activities to help get your dog’s mind racing.
Introduce your pup to a new environment, like a dog park or hiking trail, to give them new places to sniff and explore. New places allow your dog to observe people and nature, helping them experience new situations.
Gift a New Toy
Dogs love their humans, but their love for toys is a close second. Surprising your pup with a new toy is a great present to celebrate Thankful for My Dog Day. A new toy gives you the perfect opportunity to play and bond with your dog by chasing them around the yard with it or throwing the toy for them to catch.
Safe Food for your Pet
While your pup may not celebrate Thanksgiving, that doesn’t mean they can’t join in on the tasty feast this November. Treat your pet to some of these seasonal, pet safe foods:
- Turkey Meat
- Pure Pumpkin Puree
- Sweet Potatoes
- Unseasoned Green Beans and Carrots
Spread the Love
Show the shelter dogs you are thankful for them by volunteering at Operation Kindness! Our dogs are always happy to meet new volunteers and appreciate the care they provide for them. If you’re unable to volunteer but want to spread some love to our furry shelter friends, you can always send a gift that will help them receive lifesaving care!
