Operation Kindness has been awarded the 2022 Outstanding Organization Award from the City of Carrollton. This award recognizes organizations giving back to the Carrollton community for their unique, local contributions. The award, presented at the 14th Annual Citizens Evening on March 2, 2022, is selected by a commission based on merit.
We are so honored to receive this award from the City of Carrollton, where Operation Kindness has operated since 1988.
Our History in Carrollton
Founded in 1976, Operation Kindness operated out of the homes of volunteers. Then, by November 1988, Operation Kindness moved the shelter to a storefront location on Trend in Carrollton. Finally, in 1999, the shelter relocated to 3201 Earhart Drive in Carrollton, where we remain today.
Over our years in Carrollton, we continued to invest in our facility to meet the community’s needs. Most recently, we renovated and expanded our shelter. United under one roof, we added the Rees-Jones Foundation Medical Wing and a new Bear’s Den for large dogs.
How Operation Kindness benefits Carrollton
Operation Kindness supports the Carrollton community – and North Texas – by working with more than 60 rescue partners across the region. Partners include Carrollton Animal Services and many more. We can truly make a difference for homeless pets in Texas by working together.
Additionally, Operation Kindness operates a Pet Food Pantry. The pantry distributes food, litter, and supplies to low-income families in need and other rescue groups. By supporting families to care for animals in their homes, fewer pets will be surrendered to shelters for financial reasons. In 2021, the pantry distributed 87,904 pounds of food and litter.
Tackling the homeless pet population is a complex problem that requires a community solution. When we come together, we can save even more lives.
We look forward to many more years as part of the Carrollton Community!
