URGENT: Operation Kindness Welcomes 23 Animals from Storm-Ravaged Louisiana

Operation Kindness I Fall Storm Response

Yesterday, we made room to welcome 23 dogs and cats like Zoe, Trumpet and Milkyway as part of the our relief efforts for the country’s recent catastrophic storms. The intake of animals, coming from the Louisiana SPCA, were transferred by vehicle from New Orleans, Louisiana, to Operation Kindness’ Carrollton animal shelter and arrived at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4.

Responding to catastrophic storms

The Louisiana SPCA is looking for help with long-term animals as they are serving the areas hit by storms and preparing for what could come next, and we answered the call, using our foster network to clear room at the shelter for the influx of animals. To complete the transfer, Louisiana SPCA and Operation Kindness transport drivers met in Tyler, Texas. Once the animals arrived at Operation Kindness, they got comfortable in our Carrollton shelter’s 9,200 square foot Rees-Jones Foundation Medical Wing where each animal receives a health exam, any necessary medications, vaccinations or spay/neuter surgeries and a health certificate clearing them for adoption. Animals transferred to Operation Kindness from New Orleans may be available for adoption at Operation Kindness locations as soon as this weekend.

“As hurricane season continues to impact the southern United States, the Operation Kindness team is working to assist our shelter partners with animals in need,” said Ed Jamison, CEO of Operation Kindness. “Public support for our work means safety, food, medical care for animals and shelters impacted by the storms — and for other pets in need across Texas – and it means so much to the animals.”

The ages of the animals getting settled at Operation Kindness include pets ranging from two-month-old puppies and kittens to five-year-old adult animals. Animal breeds in the transfer include Labrador Retriever, Hound, American Pit Bull, Pointer, Alaskan Husky mixes and more. As the animals are cleared for adoption, they will be listed as available on our website.

As fall storm season continues to bring havoc to the southeastern United States, Operation Kindness is working with shelter partners across the country to offer resources and support.
