Ready to feel good as a family? Operation Kindness offers Family Days, special Saturdays of each month where you can volunteer as a family in Dallas. At Family Days, families can come to our Earhart Drive headquarters and volunteer together.
Who can volunteer?
At Operation Kindness Family Days, anyone ages 7 and up are welcome to participate in volunteering days. Families can register to volunteer together and come to volunteer as a group.
What can I expect to do at family day?
Volunteers aid with animal enrichment, animal training, large projects such as making kitty condos or thank you cards for volunteers and aiding with organization or sanitation projects. Opportunities vary by month, with activities like watermelon treats for the summer or building haunted house kitty condos for Halloween!
Robyn Herbert is a local Mom who loves bringing her family to Operation Kindness Family Days.
“Volunteering has been a great way to spend time together,” she says. “We look forward to it every month. We love taking care of animals and giving back to the community. We have met lots of really nice people and so many sweet and adorable animals.”
What else do I need to know?
“Family Days offer a fantastic opportunity to engage both children and adults alike,” says Aviana Goines, volunteer manager at Operation Kindness. “These events allow families to immerse themselves in various aspects of our shelter’s operations and truly appreciate the remarkable work carried out by our organization. Personally, my favorite aspect of Family Days is the educational element. Many families initially come in expecting a day of cuddling with puppies and kittens, but they leave with a wealth of knowledge. They gain insights into the shelter’s functions, the profound impact our organization has on the community, and the importance of becoming advocates for animals in their own neighborhoods.”
Family Day registration fills up quickly! The next available Family Day is Sunday, December 17. Get your spot by registering on our volunteers page.
Want to come up to the shelter on your own? Don’t miss our upcoming Parent’s Night Out on Friday, October 27. Get a behind-the-scenes tour of the shelter, animal socialization and an animal themed movie. Popcorn and cookies will be provided!
